How to convert JPEG to ICO
Choose an image, pick your sizes and download. Fit preserves the whole image; Fill & crop trims the edges to a square. Check the 16-pixel preview before exporting.
Which sizes should I choose?
16, 32 and 48 pixels cover common small-icon uses. Include 256 for a larger Windows icon. A single ICO contains each selected size; this is not a ZIP download.
Does it remove backgrounds?
No. PNG and WebP transparency is preserved, and added padding is transparent. A JPEG's existing background stays visible. Animated images use a single decoded frame.
Inspect before export
An icon has to work small
This sample is fitted into a square frame, then previewed at actual icon sizes. If the 16 px version loses its shape, use a simpler crop before downloading.

What the downloaded ICO contains
Icon Bench renders each selected square size from the same framing choices and packs those image entries into one ICO file.
- Fit image
- Keeps the entire source and may leave transparent space.
- Fill & crop
- Fills the square and trims content outside its edges.
- Selected sizes
- Become separate entries inside the downloaded ICO.

JPEG to ICO questions
Can a JPEG create a transparent icon?
A JPEG has no transparent pixels, so its existing background remains. Use a transparent PNG or WebP when the icon needs a cut-out background.
Why does my icon look unclear at 16 pixels?
Fine detail cannot survive at very small sizes. Try Fill & crop, reduce padding, or start with artwork that has a bold silhouette and fewer elements.
Does one ICO contain every checked size?
Yes. Icon Bench packs every selected resolution into the same .ico file so software can choose the closest available size.
